When talking about the student loan crisis, it’s worth remembering that women graduate with heavier debt burdens than men do, according to a 2012 report by the American Association of University Women. And because women tend to earn less than their male counterparts starting with their first jobs, they spend a bigger proportion of their wages paying off their student loans, which limits their future opportunities — and widens the pay gap.
